Isaac Haxton Poker Player Profile
Isaac Haxton has become one of the leading poker coaches at poker training site Poker Savvy Plus. He has accumulated over $2 million in tournament winnings and is regarded as one of the best MTT players in the world, but just where has this poker genius come from? Well read on and you will find out.
Haxton was born in New York City with a strategical mindset, learning chess at just 4-years old. Haxton excelled at school and by age ten he was playing Magic: The Gathering which is a very strategical game. Magic is a game where many professional players began, and it was Haxton’s Magic friends who introduced him to poker as they showed him how lucrative it could be. He decided to give it a go, and at 18 he visited the Turning Stone casino in New York and began playing $3/$6 Limit Hold’em. He did well and he now realised his friends were right about how profitable poker could be, which lead him to learning more about the game – reading over 30 poker books!
Not letting his academic gifts go to waste, Haxton went to University where he studied computer science. Despite having to study hard, he found time to play with friends and found he was consistently winning. During University breaks Haxton would go back home and found himself visiting the Turning Stone casino where he earned a nice profit most sessions. It was at this point when Haxton decided to try his luck in the online poker games, and he proceeded to deposit $50 onto his Ultimate Bet account where he began by grinding $0.25/$0.50 Limit Hold’em games. After Haxton’s freshman year, he decided to take a year off to play poker full-time. In just three months he went from $3/$6 Limit Hold’em tables to $30/$60 Limit Hold’em – quite a leap in only three months! Haxton earned over $40k that summer, however this would only be the beginning.
In January 2007 Haxton decided to enter his first live poker tournament at the 2007 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and miraculously he finished 2nd for $861,789. However he suffered a huge scare when he withdrew $800k of his winnings from his PokerStars account to his Neteller account with theĀ aim of withdrawing to his bank account. However all of Netellers $55 million assets were frozen and Haxtons $800,000 out of his hands, making him famous as ‘the guy with $800,000 stuck in Neteller’.
A few months later Haxtons funds were released from Neteller and he travelled to Vegas for the 2007 WSOP where he cashed three times, his best finish being 7th in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Rebuy event. The 2008 WSOP would be even more successful for Haxton as he made five cashes as well as a final table finish in the Mixed-Hold’em Event. Haxton then travelled to London for the 2007 WSOPE where he made a good showing earning over $200k.
At this years 2009 WSOP Haxton took the poker world by storm and cashed three times, making two final tables, and earning over $1 million. The first cash would see him finish as runner-up in the special $40,000 No-Limit Hold’em event earning him $1.1 million. Just a week later he cashed in the $1500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em event, and then went on to finish 8th in the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament earning him another $82,688.
